Newsletter: 42 months

malia-3-bwMalia ~ Today you are 42 months old! I cannot believe it! Just yesterday you were in your bouncy seat and scooting around the house. Now you are talking non stop, forming your own opinions, ideas and filled with imagination. You are so curious and want to know everything. I just love it. I just wish I would have been blogging since you were born so I could’ve had all of this wonderful change documented, but better late than never and I will go back and document what I do remember…

Anyways, your favorite movie right now is Peter Pan and Return to Neverland. The day pretty much starts and ends with me playing the part of Captain Hook. Although at bedtime I have to say, “Goodnight Captain Hook” to you. And then you’ll reply with a goodnight and an I love you and then a list of “demands” for the morning…milk, pancakes, granola bar, buns and my favorite…poop.  You are a very silly girl. You also have a wonderful vocabulary for a three year old. Oops, I mean 3 1/2 year old.  Let’s see…frustrating, frustrated, excited, confused, surprised, imagination, struggle, struggling, resist, furious (”was Peter Pan furious with Captain Hook?”), scrumtious and many more that I can’t even recall right now. You surprise me everyday in some way or another.

Malia, one day you will hopefully read this and I want you to know that you are truly a great little girl. I will call you a little girl in this newsletter because we all know that you are a “big girl” and will not let us get away with calling you a little girl. Sure you have your moods and you like things the way you like them (I don’t know where you get that from), but you are a kind, funny and even witty little girl. You even have nice manners! Wow!  I guess I’m still amazed at the little person your father and I created. I can say that being a parent is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but watching you develop and grow into who you are now is well worth the hard work. I’ll have to remind myself of that tonight when you’re procrastinating bedtime.

Just remember that I always love to be with you, play with you and talk to you. At 3 1/2 you have more figured out than most adults. You are smart! Happy 3 1/2 Birthday my love…you are finally 3 1/2 and big like the other kids. I love you!

Beansprout

Well the weekend was beautiful! It was about 70 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Sunday wasn’t  as nice, in fact it was overcast and windy, but it didn’t rain until the evening. So I suppose that’s nice.

Update on what was done over the weekend:  Surprisingly a lot. My husband,  Doug,  got the front yard ready to be landscaped on Saturday and we actually went to get some plants and planted them on Sunday. Wow, I know! We didn’t get the mulch yet and we still need to put in the solar lights but it is a huge accomplishment. Mostly done by Doug since my job was to look after Malia and tell him where to plant the plants. So I’m happy. When we were at the flower shop Malia picked out an Azalia bush. It has red flowers and will be pretty once it gets nice out around here . She was so excited.  I overheard her talking to it…

Malia: I’m going to take you home and give you some food and water. Are you thirsty?

Azalia:

Malia: You will like it there. I’ll feed you and visit you and take care of you everyday and your name is Beansprout!

Azalia:  smile

So all in all it was a good weekend and I can pull up to my house with my head held up high…well after it gets powerwashed, the deck redone, the gazebo put up…but at least we have Beansprout.

Red Dragons!

Today was Malia’s last session of Tae Kwon Do - Little Kickers. She wanted to sign up again for another 8 weeks. She was happy to get her 2nd black stripe! Red Dragons! I’ll post a video of it here once I figure out how to do that. It was only her and another boy today (Brian). I guess everyone else decided to skip because it’s so nice outside. Malia did great front and side leg stretches today. She also did a great job doing roundhouse kicks on the bag. I know she was very excited because she got to race! She just looks so cute in her uniform. She is now tired and taking her late nap. We went to 7-Eleven as usual after class to get a treat and while we were paying she decided to move the cover thaey have over the  “naughty” magazines. The magazine had a girl in a bikini on it and and Malia says, “I like her necklace…and her boops are popping out.” Well, the line was long behind us and all got a nice chuckle out of that one.

It’s such a nice day today! When Malia gets up we’ll probably go outside and do some bubbles and play. I won’t be going to kickboxing tonight because with these late naps I don’t feel like I get to play with her as much…and did I mention it was a nice day? I’ll go on Sunday.

So I guess I’ll have to figure out what we can do this weekend to get the yard and house in shape. Sprintime always makes me feel anxious about getting stuff done. Everything is a mess in the yard and I want to do so  much so that when it does stay nice out we can just enjoy it and go to the pool or hang out at Malia’s pool. Hmmm…more raking or get the front yard ready for landscaping? Both? I’ll let you know what actually gets done.

Curly fries

This is a conversation I had with my three year old daughter this morning before I went to work…

Me: “Would you like two dollars to get curly fries today with ba ngoai (grandma in Vietnamese)?

Malia: “No, ba ngoai can just buy them. She has money.”

Me: “Ok, are you sure?”

Malia: “Well, yes I would like two dollars. How much do they cost? Maybe we should call ba ngoai and ask her. I think I need another dollar, two isn’t enough.”

Me: “Alrighty then. I want you to have enough.”

Malia: “I’ll get it. where is your money. Maybe I need TWO more.”

She got three dollars total in the end. And I found out that they cost $2.25. She was right two dollars wasn’t enough.

Hello world!

This is my first attempt at blogging. I’ve been meaning to do it for a couple of years. I wondered if I had anything interesting to say, but now I figured that it doesn’t matter if it’s interesting, just as long as I say it. So I will be writing about funny things, my life, my thoughts and possibly an interesting fact or two. Stay tuned…
